I am a senior citizen recently graced by MaineCare. I use the word “graced” because getting assistance with my mounting medical bills was an enormous relief.
I owed money on a knee replacement and recently had a medical event that necessitated expensive tests. I was overwhelmed. Not only by the seriousness of my health problem and my dwindling income, but also by the fact that I was unable to reimburse Redington Fairview Hospital and doctors who provided me with such good care.
Since I’ve always tried to pay my bills in full, this situation was very stressful. Getting assistance, therefore, was not only a way to thank my medical providers, but also lifted the burden of indebtedness that will surely help on my ongoing wellbeing.
