An ice fishing derby on Saturday will be the first fundraising event organized by Regional School Unit 2’s Futures Committee, which is raising money to reduce the amount of local tax support needed for the school district’s budget.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Cochnewagon Lake Town Landing in Monmouth. Weigh-in closes at 2 p.m.

Prizes are by weight for largest bass, largest panfish, largest pickerel and largest trout. There are prizes for both children and adults.

The derby is sponsored by Rocky Hill Bass Anglers and Thornehead Guide Services.

All proceeds from the event will provide tax savings for RSU 2 constituents while also ensuring that academic programs continue to grow and flourish, according to a news release. RSU 2 includes Dresden, Farmingdale, Hallowell, Monmouth and Richmond.
