Pittsfield Water Works is asking all customers to conserve water use after workers found a massive leak in a pipe that they are working to repair.

The department found that the water pressure was declining Saturday morning and the pumps were pumping water into the system as fast as it was being used.

“This means that there is a massive leak,” Town Manager Kathy Ruth said in a news release.

The leak was found at the site of a discontinued mill, and the utility is working to fix the problem.

Ruth said the repair will take time and residents should conserve water in the meantime so that the system can function without the supply depleting.

Residents with additional questions can speak with Assistant Superintendent Scott Noble by calling him at Pittsfield Water Works at 487-5203.
