A Winslow woman already facing charges she stole from the town’s wrestling booster club is now also accused of stealing from a China field hockey team.

The new accusations against Wendi Willette, 41, were made public Friday. Willette was arrested in October on charges of bilking the Winslow Wrestling Booster Club of more than $10,000.

Thursday’s indictment, handed down in Kennebec County Superior Court in Augusta, revealed Willette is also alleged to have stolen money from the China Girls Field Hockey Team in September.

Willette was involved with the field hockey program, which is offered through China’s recreation department. Town officials released a statement in November that she was no longer involved with the program.

Maeghan Maloney, district attorney for Kennebec and Somerset counties, recently said an indictment had not yet been made on the charges related to the wrestling club because prosecutors were negotiating with Willette in the hopes that she could repay what was stolen.

Wrestling booster club members have said Willette, the club’s treasurer, deflected repeated requests to see the club’s checkbook using a variety of excuses. According to the indictment, Willette stole from the club over a span of nearly three years, beginning in September 2010.

Willette pleaded not guilty to the charges, two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, in November.

Two of the theft charges are class C misdemeanors, each of which is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. One of the wrestling club charges is a class B felony, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.

In 2003 and again in 2004, Willette was convicted of negotiating a worthless instrument, a crime that often refers to passing bad checks.
