Power outages Saturday morning in central Maine were caused by equipment failure and a fire at a substation, according to a recorded phone message from Central Maine Power Co. to customers.

At 10:30 a.m., CMP’s website reported 4,262 customers without power in Kennebec County. About half of the outages were in Belgrade, where the more than 80 percent of CMP customers had lost power. Outages also were listed in Mount Vernon, Rome, Oakland and Waterville.

Nearly all customers had power again by 11 a.m., according to CMP’s website.

A phone message left with a dispatcher for CMP was not returned.
