BANGOR — The A/B West squad scored from inside and out in downing the A/B East team 143-115 at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star basketball games held at Husson University on Saturday.

Jayvon Pitts-Young of Portland High School and Jake Moody of Wells High School led the way for the West with 20 points each. Newly crowned Mr. Maine Basketball winner Dustin Cole of Bonny Eagle had 19. Leading the East scoring was Zach Gilpin of Hampden Academy with 26 points followed by Tyler Thayer of Herman High School with 20 points.

Nick Burton of Falmouth High School won the Slam Dunk Competition earlier in the day.

C/D EAST 113, C/D WEST 105: Van Buren High School’s Jacob Rioux led the winners with 25 points while teammate Cherif Fall of Lee Academy added 20. The East made 10 3-pointers in the game while the West tallied seven. Hyde School’s Warsame Mohamed led the West with 27 points followed by Old Orchard Beach’s Joey Gildard with 24 points.

A/B WEST 83, A/B EAST 44: Newly crowned Miss Maine Basketball winner Allie Clement of Catherine McAuley High School scored 21 points to lead the West team to the win. Lake Region’s Tianna Jo Carter added 16 points for the winners while Anna McKenzie of Nokomis led the East with 10 points followed by Mt. Desert Island’s Hannah Shaw with seven.

Clement also won the girls 3-point shootout, hitting 10 shots. Kory Norcross of Edward Little High School and Morgan Thompson of Schenck High School tied for second place, each sinking nine 3-pointers.

C/D EAST 73, C/D WEST 68: Raychel Alley of Stearns High School led the winners with 17 points while teammate Parise Rossignol of Van Buren added 13. Leading the West in scoring were Valley’s Teagan Laweryson with 12 points and St. Dominic’s Kelly Pomerleau with 10.

FOUL SHOOTING CONTEST

Spruce Mountain’s Emily Keene and Old Town’s Garvey Melmed won the state foul shooting contests.

Keen made 44 of 50 shots to edge Washburn’s Carmen Bragg, who made 43 of 50. Melmed and Gardiner’s Seth McFarland each made 47 of 50 shots before Melmed won in a shootout, making 9 of 10 to McFarland’s 8 of 10.

MR., MISS BASKETBALL

Catherine McAuley High School’s Allie Clement was crowned Miss Maine Basketball on Friday night while Bonny Eagle High’s Dustin Cole was named Mr. Maine Basektball.

Clement averaged 18.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 assist in leading the Lions to their fourth straight Class A state championship this season. The three-time conference all-star scored 1,374 career points and has accepted a basketball scholarship to Marist College.

Cole was a four-time conference all-star and the SMAA Player of the Year his junior and senior years, leading the conference in scoring and assists both years. This season he averaged 24.5 points, 7.8 assists and 5.2 rebounds a game. He will attend Franklin Pierce University on a full athletic scholarship.

Tiana-Jo Carter of Lake Region and Van Buren’s Parise Rossignol were finalists for the girls award while Hampden Academy’s Zach Gilpin and Isaiah Bess were boys finalists.
