TURNER — Officials say several puppies are feared lost after a fire at a Maine dog-breeding business.
The blaze at Varney’s Labs in Turner was reported late Monday night.
Firefighters from several communities helped battle the blaze in a barn that housed a complex of kennels.
The business’s owner tells the Sun Journal that most of the dogs were able to get out, but four or five 5-month-old dogs probably didn’t make it out.
There was no immediate word on the fire’s cause.
According to its website, Varney’s breeds and sells Labrador retrievers. It has been in business since 1998.
