Cape Elizabeth residents snatched up 600 available bibs in six minutes, 38 seconds Thursday morning as registration for the popular Beach to Beacon 10K road race opened briefly.

Online registration for the public opens at 7 a.m. Friday until 4,000 more bibs are claimed. Last year it took less than five minutes.

Entry fee for the Aug. 2 race is $45.

A lottery for another 1,900 entries will be held until March 23. Runners may register at beach2beacon.org. There is a $5 fee to enter the lottery.

Organziers say runners shut out of the registration process may find success with the team lottery feature, which permits groups of up to six people to enter the lottery together under a single team name. If one gets in, they all get in.

At the time registration opened Thursday morning, the breakdown of users on the site was 84 percent desktop or laptop, 11 percent tablet and 5 percent mobile.
