AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Kevin Galvin drove in five runs, including a bases clearing triple, to help the Colby College baseball team to an 8-7 victory over North Central College in the nightcap of a doubleheader Monday. North Central took a 3-2 victory in the opener. The Mules are 3-1 overall heading into Tuesday’s single game with Kalamazoo.

The Mules scored all eight of their runs in the opening three innings. Galvin had a two-run single in the first inning and then ripped his big triple in a six-run third. Colin Cummings, Jason Buco and Galvin all had two hits in the second game. Andrew Della Volple and Cummings both had one RBI for the Mules. Dakota Rabbitt worked six innings for the Colby victory, striking out three and allowing six hits.

In the first game, Colby right-hander Soren Hanson took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. He allowed just four hits and struck out four.

SOFTBALL

Colby splits: Emily Schatz went 7-for-8, scored four runs and drove in four runs in Colby College’s 12-8 win over St. Catherine’s University and an 8-4 loss to Lawrence University in non-conference softball in Clermont, Fla..

Schatz was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs in the victory. Katie McLaughlin added two hits, two runs and two RBI. Brianne Wheeler smacked a pair of doubles, while Meaghan Lewia, Erica Pulford and Robin Spofford all had two runs.

Against Lawrence, Schatz went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Colby (2-3) while Grace Farnkoff finished with two hits and an RBI.

MEN’S TENNIS

COLBY 5, WIS,-WHITEWATER 4: The Mules (5-2) won their fifth straight match, knocking off 23rd ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in Hilton Head, S.C.

Carl Reid moved to 4-0 in first singles play this season with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jake Humphreys to clinch the match. Reid also teamed up with first-year Vlad Murad for an 8-4 victory at first doubles. Reid and Murad are 5-0 in first doubles play. Murad also came up big for Colby with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Byron Balkin at third singles. The Mules’ other singles win was from Matt Carroll at the fifth spot. Carroll also joined forces with Jack Bryant for a dominating 8-0 win at second doubles. Carroll and Bryant are 5-1 in doubles play, with a 4-0 mark at second doubles.
