Ten people donated their hair to charity Monday at a Locks of Love event at the University of Maine at Augusta.
Kerry Parker, senior educator at Capilo Institute on Bridge Street, said five students cut hair as part of an effort to teach the future business owners the importance of giving back to the community. The donated hair will go to Locks of Love, which gives hairpieces to children under 18 who suffer from long-term hair loss because of a medical condition or Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit that also helps children who have lost their hair.
Parker said Capilo partnered with the university on the event for the first time this year.
“We try to tell our students to give back to the community,” she said.
