Area 2014 SkillsUSA State Champions

Thirty-seven students from Mid-Maine Technical Center recently competed in 24 competitions at the SkillsUSA Championships. The competitions were hosted by Eastern Maine Community College and United Technology Center, in Bangor.

State gold medalists: Jessica McLain and Monique Sutherland, of Lawrence High School and Winslow High School, digital cinema production; Zachary Simpson, of Messalonskee Memorial High School, precision machining; and Jacob Archer, of MMHS, related technical math.

State silver medalists: Julie Steiner, of MMHS, automotive refinishing technology; Nicholas Labun, of MMHS, carpentry; Nathan Gromek, Waterville Senior High School, fire fighting; Kyle Gravel/Holly Wentworth, of WHS/MMHS, television (video) production; and enjamin Misner, of WSHS, precision machining.

State bronze medalists: Molly Moen, of LHS, cabinetmaking; and Jacob Gardner, of Temple Academy, electrical construction wiring.

More than 600 hundred students representing 23 Career and Technical schools throughout the state participated in the SkillsUSA Championships. The championships is sponsored annually by the Maine Chapter of SkillsUSA. Gold Medal winners will represent the state in the National SkillsUSA Championships, which will be held June 23-27, in Kansas City, Mo.
