The Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel have announced key hires to the papers’ sports department, filling two editing positions.
Bill Stewart is the sports editor of the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel. Stewart has been a sports reporter for the papers since 2007. Before that, Stewart was also a sports reporter at the Berkshire (Mass.) Eagle, the Waterbury (Conn.) Republican-American, and an editor at the Eagle-Tribune in North Andover, Mass.
“I’m really excited to lead a dedicated, talented and hard-working staff as we seek to continue to produce award-winning sections,” Stewart said.
Stewart replaces Scott Martin, who left the papers for Runners World magazine.
The central Maine newspapers have also hired Evan Crawley as a sports reporter and assistant sports editor. Crawley comes from North Providence, R.I., where he was assistant editor of sports and sports reporter for Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, which publishes weekly papers and a daily paper.
