The association representing grocers and food producers and distributors is holding the first annual Maine Best Bagger Contest in September.

The context will be held Sept. 9 at the Sixth Annual Maine Food Means Business 2014 Summit at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport. Contestants will be judged by national criteria, which include speed, proper bag building technique, distribution of weight between bags, style, attitude and appearance, according to a release from the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association.

The winner will receive an expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas to represent the state at the 2015 National Competition at the National Grocer Association Forum in February 2015 to compete for a $10,000 grand prize.

Hannaford Bros. also is running its own companywide contest to pick a winner to represent the supermarket at the Maine contest, according to the release.
