A West Freeman Township man was arrested on charges relating to a sexual assault on a special needs adult, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph K. Champagne, 37, was arrested Wednesday in connection with an incident that occurred in March according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Champagne was charged with gross sexual assault months after the incident because of a recent disclosure made by the victim, the sheriff’s release said.

Gross sexual assault is class B crime, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
