The Niña and the Pinta, two replica ships from the The Columbus Foundation, arrived at South Port Marine in South Portland on Wednesday.

The 65-foot Niña was built by hand without power tools and the 85-foot Pinta was recently built in Brazil.

Both ships are touring as an enhanced sailing museum to educate the public about caravels, the Portuguese ships used by Christopher Columbus on his voyage across the Atlantic in 1492.

The two replica ships started their journey from the the Gulf of Mexico in February and will end in Madison, Louisiana, in December.
