One teenager was taken to the emergency room late Tuesday for alcohol poisoning, and several others are facing charges after the Winslow Police Department broke up an underage drinking party at a private camp.

The police department received an anonymous tip reporting a potentially large underage drinking party, but the report did not specify where the party would be, according to a press release from Police Chief Shawn O’Leary.

Throughout the evening, officers searched for the party and at 1:18 a.m., the teenagers were found at a private camp near Bald Eagle Lane and Brown Trout Road.

There were eight minors at the camp between the ages of 15 and 17, and O’Leary said all of them had been drinking.

One of the teenagers was taken to Thayer Center for Health Emergency Room for alcohol poisoning, according to the release.

Eight were charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. Two of the teenagers were additionally charged: one with allowing a place for minors to consume alcohol and another with furnishing liquor to minors.

After the teenagers were given a summons to appear in court, they were released to their parents, O’Leary said. The youth who was taken to the hospital was also released to his parents, he said.

O’Leary said in the release that his department is committed to the preventing underage drinking “and will continue to make this a priority throughout the summer and into the school year.”
