SKOWHEGAN — Messalonskee and Andy Valley remained undefeated Sunday on the second day of the Cal Ripken 12U state tournament at the Carl Wright Complex.

Messalonskee opened the day with a 15-5, 4-inning win over Marshwood. Dylan Cunningham picked up the win for Messalonskee, which has scored 29 runs in two tournament games. Sal Caccumo and Hunter Smith each singled twice for Messalonskee.

Andy Valley stayed in the winner’s bracket with a 7-6 win over Ararat, as Wyatt Williamson banged out three hits and earned the win on the mound. Janek Luksza doubled and singled for Andy Valley, while Rodney Bean homered. For Ararat. Eli Ouellette singled four times and Justin Vashon added three hits.

Host Skowhegan stayed alive by winning two elimination games. First, Skowhegan defeated River Valley, 3-2, with Carter Hunt getting the win and Colby Miller coming in for the save. Then Marcus Christopher led Skowhegan to an 11-3 win over Marshwood. Christopher was the winning pitcher, and also ripped a double and two singles. Ryan Savage added a triple and Zeb Tibbetts doubled.

In another elimination game, Kalib Clark got the win as North Franklin County knocked off Maranacook, 5-0. Parker Ross, Luke Kearing and Nate Luce each singled for North Franklin. Hunter Glowa singled for Maranacook’s only hit.

North Franklin’s run ended later in the day with a 10-0, 5-inning loss to Mt. Ararat and pitcher Willy Kavanaugh. Trey Booty singled three times for Ararat, while Hunter Lohr and Caleb Manuel banged out two hits apiece. For North Franklin, Jed Zellie singled twice.

The tournament continues at 3 p.m., Monday as Messalonskee faces Andy Valley in a winner’s bracket game. The loser of that game will face the winner of a 3 p.m. elimination game between Skowhegan and Ararat. That final game is at 5:30 p.m.
