AUGUSTA — Ten thousand Maine patients and their families will get free state park passes through a partnership between the state and the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation.

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says that the free passes are being given to primary care physicians at 124 Maine practices who have joined the “Let’s Go!” program.

Recipients will be able to use the passes at any of Maine’s 48 state parks and historic sites through December 2014. Baxter State Park is not included.

The passes are being provided for the third year by the department’s Bureau of Parks and Lands, the health care foundation and Let’s Go! The program seeks to prevent childhood obesity by promoting healthy eating and physical activity.
