Portland officials say the city has received an $18,000 grant that will aid its goal of creating a comprehensive plan for its parks.

The city, the Trust for Public Land and Portland Trails are working together to assess Portland’s open spaces. The Portland-based Lerner Foundation is giving Portland Trails $18,000 for the effort.

City Manager Mark Rees says the goal is to improve city parks and open spaces so they can be sustained into the future. City officials say the work will help guide decisions about which spaces need more trails, recreational facilities, public art, and new protections.
