A Skowhegan man cutting trees in Chesterville was killed Friday in what appears to be a logging accident, according to police.
An acquaintance of Seymour Charles, 54, reported the death to police at 3:25 p.m., according to a report from Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.
Nichols said Lt. David St. Laurent and deputies Sandy Burke and Andrew Morgan investigated and reported that it appeared to be a logging accident.
Evidence from the scene along Route 156, indicated Charles was killed instantly when a branch fell and struck him in the head and back, Nichols said. He said Charles was alone at the time of the accident.
