BAR HARBOR — Sen. Susan Collins is joining officials from the MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor to celebrate an $18.4 million grant to strengthen research and to train workers.
The five-year award from one of the National Institutes of Health ensures the continuation of a network of 13 Maine research institutions, universities and colleges.
The MDI Biological Laboratory leads the network that aims to boost Maine’s biomedical research by providing funding to scientists and offering hands-on research training to undergraduate students.
Monday’s events will include a tour of the facilities, presentations and an address by Collins.
Also on hand will be program participants. College of the Atlantic President Darron Collins says more than 100 COA students have worked in classrooms and done research with investigators as part of the program.
