Two escape swamped canoe on Echo Lake

Firefighters from several communities and game wardens responded Thursday afternoon to a report of a swamped canoe on Echo Lake in Fayette.

Two people were spotted in the water, but made it to an island where they are staying in a camp, according to reports. No injuries were reported and no rescue was necessary.

A swamped canoe was reported around 2:40 p.m. near Turtle and Echo islands. People were spotted in the water but made it to shore safely on their own.

ARRESTS

AUGUSTA

Wednesday at 5:57 p.m., Darvent Emanuel Cummings, 23, of Augusta, was arrested on a charge of fugitive from justice on Water Street.

Thursday at 12:05 a.m., Charles Douglas Buckingham, 54, of Augusta, was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic assault by police responding to a complaint on Summer Haven Road.
