VINALHAVEN – Officials have identified the fisherman found in the water alongside his empty lobster boat off Vinalhaven Island.
The Maine Marine Patrol said 36-year-old Jeremy Philbrook of Vinalhaven is believed to have fallen overboard and drowned.
A boater discovered his body Wednesday afternoon in Hurricane Sound. A Maine Marine Patrol vessel transferred the victim to emergency medical personnel, who pronounced him dead.
Coast Guard Lt. Scott McCann said the case underscores the importance of wearing a lifejacket, especially those who, like Philbrook, are alone on the water.
