Waterville police are investigating an accident that occurred Monday afternoon on College Avenue in front of Dunkin’ Donuts.

Derek Gagne, 27, told police he was riding his bicycle at 2:18 p.m. and was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that was leaving the doughnut shop, according to police Chief Joseph Massey.

The driver of the Tahoe, Nathaniel White, 28, of Waterville, said he saw the bike rider as he (White) was exiting Dunkin’ Donuts, stopped, and the bicyclist swerved to go around the Tahoe, lost control of the bicycle and fell, Massey said.

Police Officer Dan Brown did not find any physical evidence to indicate the bicycle and Tahoe collided or made contact, Massey said.

Meanwhile, Gagne, complaining of pain, was taken by Delta Ambulance to Thayer Center for Health on North Street.
