CAPE MAY, N.J. — Matthew D. Beal of Augusta, Maine, has graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center at Cape May as a fireman apprentice.

As a member of Recruit Company Romeo-189, Beal received the company’s most improved physical fitness award. He has reported to his first duty station on the Coast Guard’s Polar Star in Seattle, Wash., where he will continue his training to become a damage controlman.

Beal is a 2012 graduate of Cony High School. He is the son of David Beal and Susan Robinson and David Robinson.
