Two men were rescued from their overturned canoe in Brandy Pond in Naples Tuesday night after a homeowner heard their calls for help.

Chaz Price, 19, and Josh Garrison, 20, both from Ohio, told authorities that they were canoeing in the pond off Jackson Cove Road when their canoe capsized far from shore around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. One of them was wearing a flotation vest, but the other was not, according to a release by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office issued Friday.

The two told responders that they were sharing the single flotation vest but their combined weight was too much for the vest and they were growing tired.

Nearby resident Edward Sorensen got into his rowboat and went out to look for them after he and his wife, Roberta Sorensen, heard their calls for help. Roberta Sorensen called 911, while Edward Sorensen located the two men in the water several hundred feet off shore near their capsized canoe. Sorensen was able to get them into his boat and bring them to a nearby dock where members of the Naples Rescue Unit examined them and found them uninjured.
