I am proud to serve with Rep. Karen Kusiak, D-Fairfield.
As House chairman of the Taxation Committee, I saw how she hard she worked with legislators from both sides of the aisle to prevent property tax increases. Her town depends on revenue sharing to fund police officers, firefighters and schools. Further cuts to these funds for local communities would have meant that working-class towns like Fairfield would have faced increased property taxes, cuts to critical services or both.
Kusiak worked tirelessly to restore $40 million in funding to municipalities this year. The bill passed with bipartisan support.
She also worked for common-sense measures like promoting local control and fairness in educator evaluations and helping veterans in their transition to civilian life.
I admire Kusiak for her willingness to tackle issues large and small and work with legislators of all political stripes. I thank her for her hard work.
