LONDONDERRY, N.H. – Prosecutors aren’t going to make a flap over a Republican party staffer who dressed like a big chicken and confronted Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Gov. Maggie Hassan.

Disorderly conduct charges against 23-year-old Michael Zona were dismissed Monday. Prosecutors did not give a reason.

Zona was charged on Aug. 16 after he was aggressively clucking and flapping his wings at Shaheen and Hassan during a parade.

Republicans say Shaheen is too “chicken” to face voters in town-hall style meetings.

At the time, police said they told Zona several times to stop before he was arrested. He said he was only exercising his First Amendment right to free speech.

Shaheen and Hassan are running for re-election this fall.
