AUBURN — An Auburn man who choked his girlfriend with an electrical cord until she passed out has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Mack Williams Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated assault.

The Sun Journal reports that Williams also received a five-year suspended sentence for assaulting his former roommate, who came to the victim’s aid during the attack in March.

Prosecutors say the 31-year-old Williams used a cord from an electrical heater to choke his girlfriend during an argument in which she threatened to leave and even started packing. Williams also used a plastic toy guitar to beat both his girlfriend and his roommate.

Williams was also ordered to undergo counseling and have no contact with either victim.
