PITTSFIELD — Author and motivational speaker Johnathon Smith will speak at Maine Central Institute at 7:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in Parks Gymnasium as part of the School’s Patterson Lecture Series. The talk will correspond with this year’s school theme of creativity.

Smith graduated from MCI in 2004 and went on to play Division I football at the University of Delaware. After pursuing a professional career with the NFL, Smith began a personal training company, Living Legends. Smith also began working as a motivational speaker, using the lessons he learned as a successful student-athlete to encourage students to apply the same drive, ambition and focus that they have on the field to their academic and professional lives.

In 2013, Smith published his first book, a children’s novel “Dare to Dream, Play to Win.” The book focuses on integrating traits learned from sports into the classroom and is designed to encourage younger children to stay in school and learn all they can while participating in team sports for fun. Smith is also actively involved in his community by volunteering his time to many events and nonprofit organizations that involve kids.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 487-5915.
