The Kennebec Retired Educators Association will award a $100 grant to an educator in Kennebec County for classroom use.

The grant will supplement the expenses for a student-centered, interdisciplinary project and may be expended for materials used in the classroom, speaker’s fee or project development expenses.

KREA is comprised of retired educators from 60 schools in 31 cities and towns. “Even though we are not actively teaching in the classroom anymore, for many of us retirees that is where our hearts remain long after we leave teaching,” Phil Gonyar, chairperson of the Innovative Classroom Grant Committee and retired social studies educator from Waterville High School, said in a news release.

Grant description and applications will be given to principals of local elementary, middle and high schools. The deadline for applications is Friday, Oct. 31. The winning applicant will be notified by Dec. 1 and will receive the grant money at that time.
