A Farmington man was arrested on a felony charge of sexually assaulting a minor, according to police.

Joshua Austin, 27, was arrested on the charge of class A gross sexual assault, said Detective Marc Bowering of the Farmington Police Department.

Bowering said the investigation began in mid-August following a report from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Officer Derek Doucette arrested Austin on Friday on a warrant that came after the investigation.

Austin knew the child before the reported sexual assault, said Bowering.

Austin remained at the Franklin County jail as of Monday afternoon with bail set at $15,000 and a Maine Pretrial Services contract.
