Maine officials are accepting the final public comments about the proposed rules for the upcoming scallop fishing season.

The comments are due by 5 p.m. Monday. The 2014-15 proposal maintains the number of fishing days from last season. Department of Marine Resources Commissioner Patrick Keliher says he expects to have to cut days if scallops become too heavily depleted during the season.

The season starts in December. Officials say they also plan to shut down several waterways to scallop fishing in the upcoming season.

The agency also held three public hearings about the proposed rules. Keliher will make a final ruling on the proposed rules before the season starts.
