As a state legislator, I have had the opportunity to interact with Shenna Bellows on a number of issues. She earned my respect and, although I strongly support Sen. Susan Collins, I was pleasantly surprised that Shenna was to be her Democratic opponent.
I truly expected her to run a positive campaign, the type of campaign that Collins has always run and one that all Mainers deserve. Therefore, after watching a few of Shenna’s campaign ads on television, I was surprised that she has gone so negative in her campaign and disappointed of her decision to move to the Washington-style, negative campaigning that marks most modern political campaigns.
I understand that running against a strong candidate such as Collins is difficult, but I wanted to see a good, strong, issues-based campaign by two candidates I know and respect.
