AUGUSTA — Two people were indicted Friday on drug charges that carry maximum penalties of 30 years in prison.

A grand jury in Kennebec County Superior Court handed up indictments late Friday.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.

Darvent Emanuel Cummings, 23, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was indicted on a charge of aggravated trafficking in heroin.

According to the indictment, the offense occurred June 18 in Augusta.

In December, Cummings was one of 10 people — six of them from Pennsylvania — arrested after law enforcement agents raided a home on 1 Penley St., Augusta.
