AUGUSTA — Two people were indicted Friday on drug charges that carry maximum penalties of 30 years in prison.

A grand jury in Kennebec County Superior Court handed up indictments late Friday.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.

Darvent Emanuel Cummings, 23, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was indicted on a charge of aggravated trafficking in heroin.

According to the indictment, the offense occurred June 18 in Augusta.

In December, Cummings was one of 10 people — six of them from Pennsylvania — arrested after law enforcement agents raided a home on 1 Penley St., Augusta.

In February he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of heroin which resulted from the raid and was sentenced to six months in jail.

Dawn Hunt, 32, of Augusta, was indicted on a class A charge of aggravated trafficking in cocaine base, which allegedly occurred on Dec. 10, in Augusta. She also was charged with aggravated furnishing of heroin and violation of conditions of release, all allegedly occurring at the same time.
