Which candidate for governor would win, if we didn’t presume what it means to be a member of and support the tribes known as R’s and D’s? Party loyalty has value, but hasn’t it led us to a place most of us do not want to be?

Electing independent Sen. Angus King sent messages to the nation from Maine. We want to change and get moving. In Maine, we don’t support playpen politics. Since being elected King has critiqued both parties in power, intelligently. King’s endorsement of Eliot Cutler for governor continues the habit that won my vote for him, independence.

King, who knows the job of being Maine’s governor better than anybody running, endorses Cutler. I am proud yet again of King’s leadership with this endorsement. This is a time when informed, wise independent counsel should be followed.
