AUGUSTA — Mainers can drop off unwanted prescription drugs at dozens of police departments across the state this weekend.

Law enforcement agencies are participating in the national drug take-back effort between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The goal of the day is to ensure that people have a safe and responsible way to get rid of unwanted or unused prescription drugs, which can contaminate water if they’re thrown in the toilet or down the sink.

The Biddeford Police Department, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and the Oxford Police Department are among dozens of drop-off sites that will be available on Saturday. Find a drop-off site.
