AUBURN — Prosecutors say two experts for the defense should not be allowed to testify at the trial of a man facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the hunting death of another man.
Authorities say Christopher Austin accidentally shot and killed 49-year-old Gerard Parent in November 2012 while the two were hunting separately in Wales and shooting at the same deer.
Austin has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and is free on bail.
Prosecutors say a firearms expert and a toxicologist who allege Austin’s actions led to his own death should not be allowed to testify because they are irrelevant
The Sun Journal reports that the prosecution and defense are expected to argue their respective sides at a hearing scheduled Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
