AUGUSTA, Maine – Maine Gov. Paul LePage has ordered flags lowered to half-staff in honor of Maine House Speaker Millie McFarland.
MacFarland died late last month at a hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, after a long battle with cancer. She was 58.
She worked in the Maine House for more than 30 years. She served as clerk from 2000 to 2010 and again starting in 2012.
The lowering of the flags on Tuesday came on the day of a Memorial Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Augusta. A private burial will follow at a later date.
