AUBURN — A judge has denied bail to a Lewiston man facing a murder charge in connection with the 2013 stabbing and strangulation death of another man.

A judge concluded after a hearing Wednesday the state had shown William True should not be allowed bail pending trial.

The 21-year-old True has pleaded not guilty murder in connection with the death of Romeo Parent. Prosecutors say Parent was killed in Greene and his body dumped in a Monmouth stream.

Authorities say Parent was killed because he had told police about True’s involvement in a burglary.

The Sun Journal reports that True’s lawyer noted that it took police more than a year to charge his client with murder, and only after another person involved in the case got a deal from prosecutors and implicated True.
