Financial education is not something that should start after a student graduates from high school or college or when he or she hits the road in the real world. It needs to be integrated with standard curriculum started when students are young. After all, one of the reasons we go to school is to develop skills we will use for the rest of our lives.
I’m glad Augusta has Matt Pouliot as a state representative. He has the foresight to enact measures that directly address this need. Pouliot introduced and passed a bipartisan measure to introduce financial literacy training in our schools.
In the big picture, this is a small step, but an essential one. The only way to address such a need on a large scale is by building a firm foundation and, as we all know, today’s youth is tomorrow’s foundation. Vote for Pouliot on Nov. 4.
