The Maine Warden Service is offering a $2,500 reward for information in the case of a female moose killed illegally in northern Maine this month.

The cow moose was shot and killed and reportedly covered up by tree boughs to hide it. The moose was in Rockwood Strip T2R1, an area west of Moosehead Lake in Piscataquis County where no cow moose permits had been issued for the October moose hunt, according to the state.

Wardens are offering the reward for information leading to the arrest or prosecution of those involved.

Anyone with information related to this case or any other illegal hunting activity is asked to call either the Maine Warden Service at 1-800-ALERT-US (you can remain anonymous) or the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 207-564-3304.
