Historian Daniel Tortora of Colby College will share a talk and slide show based on his recent book “Fort Halifax: Winslow’s Historic Outpost” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Waterville Public Library, 73 Elm St.

Those who attend will learn more about the colorful local residents and visitors who have worked to preserve the blockhouse, and hear of the dramatic and interesting events in Fort Halifax’s more recent history, according to a news release from Waterville Public Library. Topics will include the eccentric amateur archaeologist Timothy Otis Paine; the efforts of the ladies of the Fort Halifax Chapter, DAR; the creation of Fort Halifax Park; and the April Fool’s Day Flood of 1987.

This event is free and open to the public. A Q&A session will follow and the author will sign copies of his book. Light refreshments will be served. The talk is presented as part of the Waterville Public Library Author Series.
