Maine officials are reaching out to scallop fishermen in advance of the season that begins on Dec. 1.

This year’s scallop season will include a 70-day season in zones one and two and a 50-day season in zone three, which includes scallop-rich Cobscook Bay.

The state’s 10-year rotational management plan for scallops in zone two will be fully phased in this season. Several areas around the state will have targeted closures as the state looks to rebuild the fishery.

The meetings with fishermen will take place Nov. 13 in East Machias, Nov. 18 in Wiscasset, and Nov. 19 in Ellsworth.
