The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office responded Sunday afternoon to a fatal all-terrain vehicle crash in Bethel, a sheriff’s office dispatcher said.
The crash, which killed the vehicle’s driver, occurred on North Road around 2 p.m., the dispatcher said.
The sheriff’s office said the victim was a 42-year-old man from New Hampshire, but authorities did not immediately make his name public.
He was not wearing a helmet.
Police told WGME-TV that a passer-by found the ATV and the man near the entrance to a trail and notified police. The victim was taken to Rumford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was alone on the ATV and no other vehicles were involved.
The death is under investigation.
