AUGUSTA — An Augusta man was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Water Street in a crosswalk Monday night, police said.

Police said Lidris Fidelis, 65, was crossing Water Street near the railroad trestle near 98 Water St. shortly after 5 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a northbound 2006 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by Ann Elliott, 57, of Augusta.

Sgt. Christopher Shaw said Fidelis was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center. Shaw said he was coherent and talking and moving at the accident scene.

Shaw said visibility was low because of the time of night and steady rain fall. He said no charges were filed and Elliott was remorseful and was shaken up following the accident.

Elliott did not require hospitalization. There was minor damage to the front of her truck.

That part of Water Street was closed for about 20 minutes because of the accident, with traffic detoured to Laurel Street.
