Farmington road expenditures are $96,000 over budget, which the town manager said is not desired but not unusual, given the challenges of keeping roads safe during severe weather.

Town Manager Richard Davis said the overdraft is 9.18 percent over budget but still under the 15 percent overdraft limit allowed under state law.

“It’s allowed because public works is highly unpredictable,” he said.

The Public Works Department reported it was overdrawn Tuesday night at a meeting of the Board of Selectmen. Davis said the department was overtaxed because of rain washing out roads, extreme winter conditions at the beginning of the year, and other harsh weather during 2014.

Davis said the board will receive the final calculation of how much the department ran over budget some time in January.
