Maine’s 56 newest police officers have graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro, according to a release from the Maine Department of Public Safety. The new officers, who come from the local, county and state ranks, have spent 18 weeks at the academy in study and training. Among the many topics the officers studied were crime scene processing, emergency vehicle operation, first aid, traffic and criminal law, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Superior Court Justice William Stokes, a former deputy attorney general, was the graduation speaker. Stokes told the new officers, “You bring the constitution to life every day and you are the first step in implementing the Bill of Rights. Congratulations to committing yourselves to serve your communities.”
