LEWISTON — A Maine hair-styling school that’s been in business for more than half a century has abruptly closed its doors, a day before classes were scheduled to resume.

Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion Inc., which had facilities in Lewiston and Bangor, announced the closure on its Facebook page.

The announcement said: “It is with great regret that we are announcing that Mr. Bernard’s School is closed, effective immediately.”

The message said school staff will arrange with individual students to pick up personal belongings.

No reason for the closures was given and no one answered the phone at the school.

The school, founded in 1960, is licensed by the State of Maine Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
