The Somerset Beekeepers, a local chapter of the Maine State Beekeepers’ Association, recently announced its 4th annual bee-school.

Four weekly classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturdays at the UME Somerset County Cooperative Extension in Skowhegan, Feb. 14, 21, 28 and March 7, according to a news release from Somerset Beekeepers.

Instructed by Samantha Burns, president of the Somerset Beekeepers, the course will cover the basics of beekeeping, including how to establish new hives, seasonal maintenance techniques, natural beekeeping methods, pest and disease management, and honey production.

Cost of the course is $60 per person and includes the course manual, and a one-year membership with the Somerset Beekeepers. Space is limited, preregistration is recommended.
